The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is Over - Now What?

If you didn't enroll during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MAOEP), which spans from January 1 to March 31, you may be curious about your next steps. Although the period for making specific changes has ended, there are still options depending on your circumstances. Here's what you need to know:
What You Can't Do Now:
Now that the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) is over, you can't switch Medicare Advantage (MA) plans or disenroll from an MA plan to return to Original Medicare unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
Do You Qualify for a Special Enrollment Period?
Certain life events or changes in your situation may qualify you for a SEP. These include:
Moving to a new address outside your current plan's service area
Losing employer or union coverage
Qualifying for Medicaid or Extra Help
Moving into or out of a nursing home or long-term care facility
Being affected by a declared natural disaster
If you believe you meet the abovementioned qualifications, we can assist you. Collaborating with a licensed advisor who can contract with all leading Medicare insurance providers enables us to find the most suitable plan for your needs.
When is The Next Enrollment Period?
The next major opportunity to make changes to your Medicare coverage is during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 to December 7. During AEP, you can:
Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan (or vice-versa)
Change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
Join, drop, or switch Part D Prescription Drug Plans
What You Can Do in the Meantime
Review Your Current Plan - Make sure it still meets your medical and prescription needs
Track Your Out-of-Pocket Costs - This helps you plan for next year's enrollment and possible changes
Ask for Help - Licensed Medicare advisors can provide free plan reviews and help you stay informed
